About Me 2020

I started the year of wondering if I should keep this blog of mine, or abandon it to the infinite stream of ones and zeros that is the internet. The title kept coming back to me, “Progressive Boredom”, was that still who I was? Is that still the belief I followed? I tossed these questions in my head over and over, but then realized the exact reason I should keep my blog the way it is, (well there’s two actually.) The first reason is the honest one, it’s a lot of work making another blog, and I happen to be lazy. But the second one was actually really interesting to me. Progressive means to change, and well, I’m sure most of you know what boredom is, and I realized how ironic it was to be thinking of changing my blog when the blog itself meant to change when bored. I wasn’t bored with my blog, rather I didn’t know if I changed from what the title meant, so even though I’ve changed, the blog title still applies to me. The cool thing is that means it always will, so I never should have to make another blog (less work baybee!).

So now that’s out of the way. Hi! My name is Jimmy Parkins, and let’s get started on my about me.

I think the best way to start this out is to start with the basics, you know the, “I like walking on long summer beaches”, kinda stuff. I like mountain biking and skiing. There’s just something about racing at mach speeds that’s so entrancing to me, even though biologically my body is probably screaming at me to go slower. Aside from the danger, I also like the freedom that comes with these activities. Sure, I could go like any sane, normal person would and go gracefully side to side down the snowy mountains or stick to your brakes on the biking trails, but the freedom allows me to go perfectly perpendicular in powdered snow and hit the jumps as fast as I can.

So now you know just a little bit about me, and while we could stop now (since I’m at 363 words), I refuse to stop writing at this moment. This is because I like talking to people, and I find it exciting to listen to other tales and share my own. However, I like to play little games with people who, more often than not, didn’t even know they signed up for a game. Maybe that’s another reason I like to talk to people, as it gives me a chance to test myself in my personal games.

Speaking of personality, I can talk about how the last couple of months have been a complete gong-show for me. As the great Ozzy Ozbourne said, “I’m going off the rails on a crazy train”, I feel like my life has been going off the rails lately, and honestly, I plan to just ride it out. Sure, it sucked a lot at the beginning, but I realize now that there’s no stopping it, so I guess I’m just gonna be just a little unstable for a while. However, this is also quite exciting, and I kinda feel like a pokemon that’s about to evolve but its a newer game so you have no idea what the newer version will look like. Who knows what will happen? I think it’s apart of my theme, progressive boredom. I got bored with me, so I decided to change.

Lastly, let’s go over a couple things that are really important to me.

Music: I really like music. I like to play it, listen to it, and sometimes when I’m not lazy, make it. I mostly like rock, and while I resent the name of the sub-genre, I particularly like punk rock. I feel that just because I like the chaotic symphony of teenage angst, power chords, and slightly repetitive but epic riffs, I don’t feel I fit in the category of a punk, but that’s beside the point. I also wouldn’t say music is my life or anything, but it’s definitely a hobby of mine that I cherish.

Learning: As with the theme of progressive boredom, I try to learn a new thing every day so as not to stay bored with what I have, (other than school stuff). I like to think of my brain like a sponge, and damnit I will fill that sponge with every piece of knowledge I can find. I believe the only way to succeed in life is to keep the flow of knowledge running because if you leave it stagnated, the knowledge will go bad.

Writing: Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed how important this tool of revitalization is to me. It combines two things that I love. Freedom: the ability to allow anything to flow from my brain to my paper in a stream of uninterrupted thought unconstrained by the restrictions that talking would normally have. I can also write anything, and it entices my imagination to go wild.                                    Logic and reasoning: sure, writing is mostly creative, however, I like to treat my works as a puzzle, and I have to find the most efficient, clever looking way to translate what goes on in my head to my brain. It’s fun to try and solve the puzzle of literature and takes a lot of logic to do.

I thank you for stopping by to this post, and I’m excited to see your comments.

Have a nice day 🙂

  1. Dear Jimmy,

First of all, can I just say brilliant piece. You touched and elaborated on significant portions of your personal life and how they impact your life, like your interest for music. Your quote selection of Ozzy Osbourne was accurately chosen and I appreciated your overall presentation of yourself. Your About Me really gave me an inside edition view of who you are as a person based on the passages you provide, without that sounding weird. Even though I have not had a full-on conversation with you, I have gotten a pretty profound vision of what your personality is like and I look forward to seeing your future posts.
    Sincerely,
    Afraz

    1. Dear Afraz,
Thanks for reading my about me and taking the time to comment on it, as it always means a lot. I cannot wait to share more conversations with you in order to find out your personality as well.
      From, Jimmy

  2. Dear Jimmy,

I really liked the casualty of your writing. It felt like a normal conversation that I had with you face to face. The first paragraph was an amazing reflection on your blog name making this piece one that felt very whole-hearted.

Although your piece was really good, I am confused on is the space in the paragraph about writing. I felt myself being detached from the writing when it came to that part because I was distracted by the spacing.

Before I started reading your about me, I was expecting a descriptive and adventurous route because you like to read those types of books. But you surprised me with the casual talk and thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall I loved the writing and the creativity. I am excited to get to know you through your writing through this semester.

    Sincerely,
    Hadlen

    1. Dear Hadlen,
Thank you for reading my about me! I like how you were able to detect the casualness of the whole thing, as that’s kinda what I was going for. As for your critique, thank you so much for pointing that out! I guess I’ll have to be more cautious next time when formatting. Also, I would like to return the wishes, in that I am also excited to get to know you throughout the semester.

  3. Dear Jimmy,

I personally used to hate literature and reading in general, until I read Anna Karenina. From there I became obsessed with unlocking the classics and developed a distaste for contemporary books, as I did not find the time required to read the contemporary works to be worthy, especially if it could be time spent on reading and analyzing pieces of the past.

However, recently I have noticed that the very inability to appreciate contemporary culture came from my ignorance of the passage of time and history, and I have realized that contemporary works contain the essence of classic works. This is like learning to respect pop songs when one likes classical music. It is very hard. It is a long process.

Your work – full of humour and wit, with a hint of profound wisdom here and there – gives me hope that perhaps your work will allow me to recognize that the depth of classic works could be found within contemporary works, and that these works will become the classic works of this century.

I am excited to see more of your work. Thank you for a wonderful About me.

    Sincerely,
    Dai

  4. Dear Jimmy,

I appreciate how casual you were in your About Me—I think I can speak for everyone who reads this when I say that seeing your visual brings a smile to our faces. The way you wrote was also very comfortable, if you know what I mean; it’s as if you’re good friends with everyone who reads your blog. I liked the humor and wit you included in this piece as well. Not only did it contribute to the casual and relaxed style of your writing, it’s also, in my opinion, true to who you are as a person.

The one suggestion I would have for you is to be aware of your formatting. Between “wild” and “Logic” there was a huge gap that kind of threw me off when I first saw it, but other than that, your piece reflects who you are in a funny, relaxed way, with a touch of wisdom here and there.

I’m eager to read more of your work and discover more of who you are.

    Amy

    1. Dear Amy,
Thank you for reading my blog it really means a lot! I’m glad to hear the blog was comfortable to read, as the main goal I strive to achieve while writing is to make it enjoyable for me to write, but also for the reader to read. Thank you for catching that mistake with my formatting, I’ll be sure to watch for those in the future.
Again, it was lovely to see your comment I am excited to find out more about your writing style throughout the semester.

      Jimmy

  5. Dear Jimmy,

I absolutely LOVE how casual this piece was while remaining creatively in depth. I like how honest and raw you were when describing your hobbies and simply discussing your passions. Bonus points because I don’t know you well^^. I could tell that you enjoy writing through this blog post alone, and the numerous posts you have here is also evident of that passion. I enjoy listening to those who are passionate about their life, it’s always nice to have many hobbies and, as sad as it is, many people aren’t really like that too often. Your humor and relaxed tone is a nice change from some very elegant and sophisticated typical styles, and I really enjoyed your personal style!

Only slight criticism here is that the formatting is kind of wild (it is not bad pls don’t be sad) but I just think you get really excited about writing so I’m not sure if that’s a con? Being a tiny bit more concise would be better in my opinion, I think.

I’m really glad I was assigned to you ’cause you seem like a really cool person!

ps. What’s your favorite legendary Pokémon? Mine is Rayquaza^^

    Debbie

    1. Dear Debbie,
Its an honor to see you have read my blog. Honestly, it’s always good to see that people enjoy these types of posts, as that really what I gun for whenever I introduce myself. The feedback is also helpful, and for future blog posts I’ll keep an eye out for those formatting mistakes; and I’ll also try to keep my enjoyment on a leash so it doesn’t impede on tote quality of the post.
As for my favorite Pokémon, I’d have to say Victini. Rayquaza is good too, but something about a hyperactive midget is very appealing to me.

      Jimmy
